x'oots (Bear). 22 inch rawhide drum with beater. Design is a based on traditional Chilkat style work. Typically a Chilkat design is black, yellow and green or blue, however, the colors were changed to black, red & blue because they read better on rawhide. Pigments: black iron oxide, red iron oxide, vivianite. This drum is part of an exhibit featuring natural pigments at form & concept gallery, Sante Fe, New Mexico. https://www.formandconcept.center/exhibition-guide-wild-pigment-project

Thank you!
These are just a few of the styles and designs of knife sheaths that can be done.

Some of these designs are done with typical leather tooling techniques, some are done with pyrography and others are carved. Carved leather is a technique that I have developed in which material is literally carved out to create a 2D design.

Copper Woman Studio is the first, and only place you will find NWC Native style designs done by hand in leather.

The metalwork on my leather goods is all done in-house. It is all hand-forged and hand-carved.
